It is often very time-consuming and fraught with bureaucratic hurdles to obtain comprehensive preventive healthcare and corresponding recommendations for prevention. You often have to make appointments with different specialists and be prepared for long waiting times. Things are very different at the ETHIANUM Clinic in Heidelberg. The highly motivated team led by Dr. Felix Gramley, MD, PhD as Head of Preventive Medicine will look after and accompany you throughout the entire period of your stay with us. Finally, you will receive a comprehensive overall picture of your state of health. Naturally with medical advice and recommendations for your preventive health care. We can make you this offer because at the ETHIANUM we work together in the specialist departments according to individual needs and on an interdisciplinary basis. The health check-up – procedure and examinations
Our health check-up begins with a personal meeting with our specialist and Head of Preventive Medicine Dr. Felix Gramley and his team. Without any time pressure, Dr. Gramley will talk to you about the questionnaire you have completed and go through the upcoming examinations with you. This is followed by the necessary medical examinations, which also include a medical-technical programme. Depending on the time of day, we have scheduled time for breakfast or lunch in our cafeteria between the examinations. Our catering offers you freshly prepared, wholesome meals every day. Your laboratory results are usually already available afterwards. You will then discuss the analysis of the tests in detail with Dr. Gramley. If further medical examinations are necessary on the basis of these results, these are usually carried out immediately afterwards.
In the final consultation, our Head of Preventive Medicine will give you a summarised status of your state of health. You will also receive recommendations relating to your individual diagnoses and your health. A few days later, we will send you a clearly written medical report by post or, if you prefer, by e-mail.

INTERNAL EXAMINATION
A comprehensive health check-up includes internal examinations. We have summarised the services we offer you in preventive medicine at the ETHIANUM.
Non-invasive examination of the cardiovascular system and lungs
- Ultrasound examination of the heart incl. colour and tissue Doppler/duplex technology
- ECG at rest
- Lung function test at rest (spirometry)
- ECG and lung function test during exercise (cardio-pulmonary exercise test or CPX)
- Oxygen saturation in the blood (pulse oximetry)

Laboratory values – biochemistry of the body
- Blood count and inflammation parameters: Blood sedimentation, complete blood count, electrophoresis (protein test in the blood), CRP (gives indications of inflammation)
- Sugar metabolism: fasting blood sugar, HbAlc (long-term blood sugar test), basal insulin, HOMA index (early detection of diabetes)
- Blood lipids: total cholesterol, HDL and LDL cholesterol, triglycerides
- Kidney values: Uric acid, creatinine, BUN

EXTENDED EXAMINATIONS
The extended examinations in the health check-up are recommended in the event of abnormal findings from the preliminary examinations. The extended examinations can also be carried out on request in the event of suspected risks due to hereditary predisposition or anxiety due to perceived abnormalities. For companies, modules of the extended examinations can also be booked as part of the company health management programme.
