THE MOST IMPORTANT TREATMENT METHODS FOR SCARS AFTER SELF-INFLICTED INJURIES
Depending on the depth and size of scars after self-injury, different methods can help to make the visible marks on the skin invisible. Please note that most of these medical methods are applied either under general anaesthetic or local anaesthetic. Our specialist Priv.-Doz. Dr Eva Kollensperger will advise you individually on the procedures and anaesthesia.
Dermabrasion or serial excision can be considered for scars after self-inflicted injuries. Dermabrasion involves removing the top layer of skin. This procedure can be combined with other medical methods to improve the appearance of the skin. A piece of skin is removed during this procedure. The skin cells are separated directly in the operating theatre and placed in a solution. This results in the body’s own skin and pigment cells supporting each other and thus accelerating wound healing. Ideally, the scars are no longer noticeable after treatment. You can find detailed information on dermabrasion here.
Scar therapy is also possible using serial excision. This involves cutting out the scarred area. This can also be done in stages. Overall, serial excision promises very good results. You can find more information about this procedure here.
Visible results can also be achieved with needling or laser treatments.
