WRINKLE INJECTIONS – FILLER TREATMENTS FOR A YOUNGER LOOK
In a wrinkle injection, the wrinkles are plumped up with so-called fillers. The selected active ingredient is injected under the wrinkle. On the one hand, this smoothes the treated area, but the fillers also add volume and plump up the treated area. In this way, wrinkles can be filled in, but cheeks and lips can also be made fuller. Fillers can also be used to rejuvenate the back of the hand and are also used for deepened scars. The effect of wrinkle injections is always the same: you look fresher, firmer and more youthful overall.
Depending on the filler, the following aesthetic goals can be achieved with fillers:
- Wrinkle injection: Visible smoothing and softening of even pronounced wrinkles such as frown lines, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, tobacco pouch wrinkles (lip wrinkles)
- Lip correction: fuller lips, correction of the lip contour
- Plumping of the cheeks
- Reduction of dark circles under the eyes
- Rejuvenation of the back of the hand
- Correction of deep scars
We have summarised which fillers are suitable for which areas of the body and how wrinkle injections are applied. Of course, the specialists at the ETHIANUM will examine you before each treatment and provide you with comprehensive and individualised information about the risks. If wrinkle injections are not suitable for you or if they do not promise the desired results, you can always rely on the advice and surgical expertise of the plastic and aesthetic surgery specialists at the ETHIANUM. They will be able to show you other treatment methods for your wrinkles.

Wrinkle injection with autologous fat – lipofilling
Wrinkle injection with autologous fat is also known as lipofilling. It has the decisive advantage that there is no allergic reaction or rejection. This is because only the patient’s own body fat is used for wrinkle injections or padding. This autologous fat is taken from an inconspicuous area (e.g. stomach, thighs, buttocks) using a syringe. It is then processed and finally injected back into the desired area. Treatment with autologous fat has the additional advantage that the fat cells form a permanent bond with the tissue. This achieves lasting success in wrinkle treatment. A facial treatment takes about one hour in tota
Lipofilling is suitable for
- Wrinkle injections
- Cheek and cheekbone augmentation
- Treatment of dark circles under the eyes
- Hand rejuvenation
- Scar corrections
Wrinkle injection with hyaluronic acid
Hyaluronic acid is an essential component of our connective tissue. Its properties include the ability to bind large quantities of water. The full effect of wrinkle injections with hyaluronic acid therefore only develops slowly, although you can see the first positive effects immediately after the treatment. For medical use, the gel-like filler preparations are usually obtained from bacteria. However, these also occur naturally in many tissues of the human body. This is why an allergic reaction to hyaluronic acid treatment is generally not to be expected. The results speak for themselves. The depth of wrinkles is reduced. Depending on the area, the wrinkle can also disappear completely. Various products are used at the ETHIANUm, such as Profhilo®Skinbooster or Philart Polynucleotide. Our expert Mrs Ballout will discuss with you which product is most suitable for you. The result lasts between 3 and 12 months, depending on the product.
Hyaluronic acid is suitable for
- Wrinkle injections
- Cheek and cheekbone augmentation
- Scar treatments
- Plumping up the lips
- Reduction of dark circles under the eyes
- Padding of the back of the hand
Wrinkle injections with poly-L-lactic acid
Lactic acid is produced in the human body during the breakdown of carbohydrates and muscle metabolism. This results in the breakdown products of lactic acid, namely carbon dioxide and water. The body absorbs these very well. The use of POLY-L-lactic acid in aesthetic medicine is based on its ability to promote collagen formation. As a result, wrinkles and contours can be optically corrected. The body’s own processes sustainably firm and smooth the treated areas. On average, three POLY-L lactic acid treatments are required every six weeks. The optical effect of a wrinkle injection only sets in gradually. Immediately after the treatment, a clear filling effect can be seen. This initially only lasts a few days until the water is absorbed. The formation of new collagen only begins after around four weeks. This then leads to a long-lasting result that you can enjoy for up to two years. A treatment takes about 30 minutes, depending on the number and size of the areas to be treated. The ETHIANUM generally uses the product Sculptra® Liquid Lifting.
POLY-L-lactic acid is suitable for
- Wrinkle injections on the nose and mouth
- Contouring of the chin
- Firming and adding elasticity to the lower half of the face (liquid lifting)
- Cheek and cheekbone augmentation
- Scar corrections
Wrinkle injections with hydroxyapatite
Hydroxyapatite is used in a variety of medical applications. As half of human bone consists of hydroxyapatite, it is used as an artificial bone substitute or as a dental implant. It is also used to inject wrinkles. The result lasts eight to twelve months or longer.
Hydroxyapatite is suitable for
- Injecting deep wrinkles
- Cheek and cheekbone augmentation
Wrinkle injections with fillers – treatment procedure
Your health is the top priority for every treatment at the ETHIANUM Clinic Heidelberg. Accordingly, the specialists in plastic and aesthetic surgery and dermatology will examine you in detail and give you comprehensive advice and results before every wrinkle injection with fillers. If the preliminary examination does not reveal any objections to wrinkle injections, the only thing left to decide is your personal decision. Because only if you are sure will your specialist carry out the treatment.
Filler treatment for wrinkle injections is performed on an outpatient basis. The skin is cleaned first. If necessary, you will be given a local anaesthetic. As a rule, however, you can sit back and relax while the wrinkle injection begins.
These are the steps:
- The preparation is injected using a syringe and the finest possible needle. This usually only takes a few minutes.
- After the injection, the treated area is lightly massaged and cooled if necessary, depending on the filler selected.
The first results are immediately visible. The final result is visible after a few days. Depending on the injection, but also on the depth of the wrinkle or if the cheeks and cheekbones are being built up, several treatments may be necessary. In most cases, you can wear light make-up again shortly after the treatment. However, you should avoid strenuous exercise and strong sunlight in the first few days after the treatment.
Filler treatments – risks and tolerability of fillers
In rare cases, filler treatments can lead to intolerances or complications. These are usually minor asymmetries or minor bruising that may occur. Over- or undercorrection of wrinkles can also occur. Foreign body reactions or intolerances can be ruled out when injecting your own fat, as this is your own tissue. With all other treatment options, clumping or migration of the filling material may occur in very rare cases. Skin rashes and swelling can also be a temporary risk. In a small number of people, the filler is broken down more quickly by the body. In this case, it may be advisable to change the preparation. In rare cases, autologous fat treatment can cause temporary numbness in the treated area, which can last for several weeks.
