THREAD LIFT – THE SOFT LIFT FOR FACIAL REJUVENATION
A thread lift is considered the modern soft lift for facial rejuvenation. This modern procedure makes it possible to look younger without the need for extensive surgery or a lot of time. The aesthetic surgery specialists at the ETHIANUM work with three different PDO threads during a thread lift. These are short basic threads, medium-length screw threads and long threads with anchors. However, there is a lot to consider with the soft lifting method.
First of all, our face is particularly exposed to many events such as sun, temperature, wind, weather and bacteria. However, our facial skin is much thinner than the skin in other regions. This means that irritation reactions are often more pronounced on the face. This needs to be taken into account during a soft lift. In addition, different threads are used for a thread lift.
At ETHIANUM, we offer a thread lift exclusively for the following areas:
- Cheek area
- Midface
- neck
- décolleté
- Eyebrows (in individual cases after consultation with the specialist)
At the ETHIANUM Clinic Heidelberg, your satisfaction and especially your health are our top priority. Find out why we only offer PDO threads for a soft lift in certain areas of your body and what speaks against other areas or threads. You will also find out how a thread lift treatment works.
“At the ETHIANUM, we limit thread lifting to areas where we are certain that the result will be good and the risks are low.”

THREAD LIFTING – THE PRINCIPLE OF SOFT LIFTING WITH SHORT PDO THREADS
The principle of thread lifting with short PDO threads is quickly explained. By inserting the PDO threads, new collagen is formed in the subcutaneous tissue. The body gradually breaks down the threads and forms new connective tissue in their place. This new connective tissue produces the actual tightening effect. The PDO threads break down completely after six to eight months. What remains, however, is the fresh collagen structure in the subcutaneous tissue. This ensures a firmer, fresher appearance for two to three years. Gradually, the collagen structures are used up and the lifting effect slowly diminishes.
PDO is the abbreviation for polydioxanone. A material that has been used for surgical sutures for decades. At the ETHIANUM, we only use sterile PDO sutures of the Venus V-Line brand from Sonewa. These are CE-marked and their production is certified in accordance with ISO 13486, GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) and KFDA (Korea Food & Drug Administration). The PDO threads are available in various designs and different price categories. There are monofilaments, twisted filaments, twisted or spirally twisted PDO filaments.

THREAD LIFT FOR FACE LIFTING – THE TREATMENT PROCEDURE
A thread lift does not require an inpatient stay. Nor does it require anaesthesia or a skin incision. In the first step, your aesthetic surgeon will discuss the possibilities of a thread lift with you. He or she will also inform you about the possible risks of the treatment and give you recommendations for the time after the treatment.
As no skin incision is necessary for the soft lift, the treating doctor will only anaesthetise the affected areas locally. The specialist will then place the PDO threads between the skin and subcutaneous fatty tissue using fine needles. This step requires a great deal of sensitivity for the individual arrangement of the threads. Different types of threads are used depending on requirements and the condition of the skin. The treatment time is individual, but can be estimated at between 15 and 45 minutes on average.
When the threads are inserted, slight swelling occurs in the subcutaneous tissue, so that a slight lifting effect is immediately visible. You can speak immediately after the treatment and may even be able to work. However, you should refrain from sporting activities and facial treatments such as masks or peelings for the first few days, as well as from making faces and opening your mouth wide, e.g. when biting into an apple, as this could cause the stitches to slip. The overall result of your thread lift can be assessed after around three to six months. If you wish, additional treatments such as hyaluronic acid injections are possible.
