Acne outpatient clinic – specialist acne treatment for smooth skin
During puberty, men and women produce more male hormones. These stimulate the sebaceous glands. The sensitivity of the sebaceous glands to the hormone varies from person to person. However, it is also the decisive factor in whether acne develops or not.
This sensitivity to male hormones is probably hereditary. In acne patients, the sebaceous glands produce more sebum than in healthy people. In addition, the male hormones cause increased keratinization in the sebaceous gland duct. The increased sebum can no longer drain away and the gland duct becomes blocked. Visually, this process manifests itself as blackheads, also known as comedones. Bacteria, which are found on the surface of every person’s skin, multiply extremely in the sebum-horn mixture of the sebaceous gland. This causes inflammation, which can be recognized by the formation of reddish lumps.
Around 75% of adolescents react to hormone production. A mild form of acne develops during puberty, which heals spontaneously. However, severe acne is not limited to puberty and does not disappear on its own. If left untreated, the inflammatory skin disease leads to local scarring of the skin.
