CO-OPERATION WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF HEIDELBERG – THE BEST MEDICAL KNOW-HOW FOR YOUR HEALT
The ETHIANUM Clinic Heidelberg has been working closely with Heidelberg University Hospital and Heidelberg University since its opening. From the very beginning, the focus of the cooperation has been on the well-being of the clients and the quality of the medical skills of future generations of doctors and medical specialists.
The cooperation agreement with the University of Heidelberg defines the academic position of the Medical Director of the ETHIANUM Clinic Heidelberg, Prof Dr Germann. As an internationally active and experienced specialist surgeon, Prof. Dr Germann has been involved in an intensive exchange of knowledge and results with international research groups and universities even before the ETHIANUM Clinic was founded. Prof Dr Germann is also an honorary professor at the University of Heidelberg. In this function, Prof Dr Germann is closely involved in student teaching, e.g. at the bedside or in lectures. However, the Medical Director of the ETHIANUM Clinic does not receive a fee for these activities, even if this is misleadingly labelled as an honorary professorship.
Equal status under cooperation law is particularly important for the supervision of doctoral students and the habilitation of employees. Furthermore, co-operation is also essential for the operation of research laboratories and the acquisition of third-party funds.
Heidelberg University Hospital and the ETHIANUM Heidelberg also co-operate on the following aspects of patient care and the joint, consultative care of clients:
- Clients of the ETHIANUM are referred to the respective competence centres of Heidelberg University Hospital if there is a pathological finding as part of the preventive medicine of a screening examination.
- The ETHIANUM operates the radiology department of Heidelberg University Hospital.
- Doctors in trauma surgery and orthopaedics at Heidelberg University Hospital use the high level of technical equipment in the operating theatres at the ETHIANUM for their clients.
“Being a member of the Medical Department of Plastic Surgery at Heidelberg University is an honour for me and at the same time a committed contribution to the quality of tomorrow’s doctors. That’s why I greatly appreciate the cooperation with Heidelberg University Hospital.”
Prof. Dr. Günter Germann
