SPORTS CARDIOLOGY – MEDICAL PERFORMANCE CHECK FOR ATHLETES
Sports cardiology at the ETHIANUM specialises in carrying out sports medical performance checks. The specialists in sports cardiology examine and care for physically active people. We also carry out around 1000 cardiopulmonary exercise tests (CPX) a year to determine the optimum training zones, aerobic fitness (VO2max) and anaerobic threshold.
Of course, the medical examinations can also provide valuable information on structural and congenital heart diseases such as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) or exercise-induced cardiac arrhythmias. Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is often associated with an increased risk of sudden cardiac death in competitive athletes.
