DR. MED. KEVIN KIEFER

A new face in anesthesiology

Dr. med. Kevin Kiefer is a board-certified specialist in anesthesiology and Head of Anesthesiology at ETHIANUM Heidelberg. For many patients, he is the first point of contact before surgery and therefore an important person of trust. With calmness, experience, and empathy, he ensures that they feel well cared for, fall asleep safely, and wake up gently.

His medical career has been shaped by broad and intensive training in anesthesiology and intensive care medicine. Most recently, Dr. Kiefer worked at Mannheim University Medical Center and at Brüderklinikum Julia Lanz in Mannheim. There, he cared for patients of all ages—from newborns to seniors—and gained extensive experience across all specialties. This experience enables him to choose the most suitable, individually tailored anesthetic for every situation.

A particular focus of his work is the safe use of modern anesthetic techniques in both general and regional anesthesia. By using state-of-the-art anesthesia methods and advanced monitoring, he places great importance on preventing cognitive complications—such as postoperative delirium—especially in older patients.

As an emergency physician, he also brings valuable experience from acute and often challenging situations. In such moments, a clear mind, quick decision-making, and a calm demeanor are crucial qualities that Dr. Kiefer brings to his work every day.

What particularly sets him apart is his holistic view of the person. Even before studying medicine, he worked for several years as a registered nurse specializing in anesthesia and intensive care. This time has had a lasting impact on his understanding of patients’ needs and is still reflected today in his highly empathetic approach.

Dr. Kiefer studied medicine at the Mannheim Medical Faculty of Heidelberg University. He completed his doctoral degree with magna cum laude. In addition to his clinical work, he is also involved in research in the field of anesthesiology and has contributed to several publications.
