SPECIALIST FOR RECONSTRUCTIVE AND PLASTIC MICROSURGERY – TOP INTERNATIONAL SURGEON

Prof. Dr, Holger Engel is an internationally recognised top physician and surgeon. A specialist in plastic and aesthetic surgery, he is characterised in particular by his skills in reconstructive microsurgery. He has been working at the ETHIANUM Clinic Heidelberg as a practice partner of Prof. Dr. Reichenberger since 2020.

For over 15 years, Prof. Dr. Engel has gained national and international expertise and in-depth specialist knowledge in reconstructive microsurgery. He gained international recognition at the world’s largest microsurgery centre in Taipei, Taiwan, with which he has maintained intensive contact and professional exchange to date. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, FACS.

It is the special combination of reconstructive microsurgery and aesthetic surgery that particularly qualifies and emphasises Prof. Dr. Engel. The microsurgical treatment of lymphoedema is the hobbyhorse of the habilitated physician. He operates on lymphoedema that can occur as a result of tumour-related surgical removal of lymph nodes, for example after breast cancer.

The plastic and aesthetic surgeon got to know the Medical Director of the ETHIANUM Clinic early on. Until 2009, he worked as a junior doctor under Prof. Dr. Germann at the BG Clinic in Ludwigshafen. He still considers Prof. Dr. Germann a formative mentor today. They are now working together on further medical successes that characterise the ETHIANUM.

In his private life, the physician is passionately involved in social projects. He also likes to spend his rare free time reading about the fine arts. Prof. Dr. Engel is married and has three children.
