THE OPERATING THEATRE – TOP EQUIPMENT AND HIGH-TECH FOR YOUR SAFETY
The ETHIANUM Clinic Heidelberg has two operating theatres. However, both are not simply operating theatres, but deserve to be called operating theatres. However, it is the materials used in the construction of the operating theatres and the medical equipment that make them top first class. Equipped with glass walls all round, the operating theatres are bright and flooded with light. The terrazzo flooring shines with its almost seamless installation. The ceilings are made of pure aluminium, which ensures a so-called “clean room”. Thanks to the materials used, the operating theatres at the ETHIANUM Clinic are completely recyclable. This fulfils the sustainability concept of a green clinic, but means much more. The materials used mean that the operating theatres can be optimally cleaned and disinfected. In order to realise this to perfection, the operating theatre sluice areas were also made of glass. The almost complete absence of plastic also reduces the risk of germs in the operating theatre to an absolute minimum.
Operating theatres with sterile air
In order to perform operations, it is necessary to ensure sterile air in an operating theatre. Specialists then refer to this as a “clean room”. To ensure this, a ceiling was installed in the operating theatres in the ETHIANUM, which continuously ensures a low-turbulence displacement flow of air. This means that inflowing air is channelled vertically into the room over a large area via the ceiling. On the way there, the air is filtered in numerous stages so that fine dust particles and even odours no longer stand a chance. Before the air enters the operating theatre, it is passed through a final, terminal filter. This high-performance filter does not allow even the finest particles to pass into the room, apart from the clean air. The final filter is 10 square metres in size and forms a canopy over the actual operating field. The sterile air then sinks downwards evenly over the entire 10 square metres and thus displaces all air containing germs from the operating field.
Particle-free air for the highest hygiene standards
Viruses and bacteria attach to particles. The fewer particles there are, the fewer germs can attach to them. The greater the surface area and the more uniform the air movement from the ceiling, the less likely it is that germs will enter the operating theatre. This is good for your health and meets the very high hygiene standards of the ETHIANUM Clinic Heidelberg.
High-tech for your health
The medical equipment in the operating theatres at the ETHIANUM Clinic is among the most modern and up-to-date in German clinics. Our operating theatres are equipped with mobile imaging devices such as an X-ray machine or an ultrasound scanner. This enables the operating specialist to have a new X-ray image taken during the operation. He can view this directly in the operating theatre and thus react immediately. To ensure that this also meets the high hygiene standards, the monitors are installed behind a glass wall. Thanks to the ETHIANUM Clinic’s intelligent communication system, the specialist can also call up the digital patient file at any time via these monitors. This increases the precision of the surgical performance and contributes to a very high level of safety for you during an operation. Of course, the operating team can also control the air conditioning and lighting in the operating theatre or adjust the room temperature. In addition, both operating theatres are equipped with intercom systems.
