Dr. Bernd Scholz is a specialist in anaesthesia at the ETHIANUM. As he is responsible for the pre-operative phase, the likeable doctor has a special relationship of trust with his clients. Thanks to his anaesthesia, they sleep pain-free and safely. And wake up particularly gently.
There is another reason why clients can feel safe with Dr. Scholz at the ETHIANUM. The specialist in anaesthesia is also an emergency doctor. Dr. Scholz was already working as a paramedic during his studies. He has now completed more than 3,00 missions as an emergency physician. Of these, 500 alone were with the renowned rescue helicopter Christoph 5.

The emergency doctor also spent many years on the ground at the Hockenheimring, right next to the motorsport race track. Together with his colleague, he developed the concept and implementation of RTTLS (Race Track Trauma Life Support) at the Hockenheimring Medical Centre. This course format teaches and ensures structured, priority-orientated first aid for seriously injured people at race and rally tracks. From 2012 to 2015, Dr. Scholz was the medical director of the course format, which is supported by the Deutscher Motorsport Bund e.V. and is still a mandatory course for medics at race tracks. The concept has been well received worldwide and is also to be implemented internationally.

During his time as the anaesthetist in charge at the BGU Ludwigshafen, Dr. Scholz was entrusted with the care of patients in higher and high-risk categories. He cared for severely injured and severely burnt patients in the shock room of the emergency department and during operations. His first experiences as a doctor in his practical year and later as a junior doctor made Dr. Scholz particularly adept at dealing with young patients. Further training in paediatric anaesthesia and a paediatric emergency course at the HEMS Academy deepened his sensitive skills. This is great for the ETHIANUM, as Dr .Scholz’s handling of young patients is a great relief today, especially in reconstructive surgery and hand surgery.

The specialist in anaesthesia and emergency medicine is always concerned about the safety of his clients and their well-being after an operation. What he appreciates about his work at the ETHIANUM Heidelberg is that he can take a lot of time for his clients. “There are no budget restrictions here, no administration. I can concentrate fully on the client and use the best medication and state-of-the-art equipment,” says Dr. Scholz.

In his private life, the specialist likes to go in search of real treasures. Geocaching is Dr. Scholz’s exciting hobby. This contemporary form of scavenger hunt follows geo-coordinates to small hidden treasures in Germany and around the world. The anaesthetist also makes tracks while cycling. And his favourite way to enjoy culture is at the opera.
