Prof. Dr. med. Helmut K. Seitz is a specialist in internal medicine and gastroenterology with decades of experience. Prof. Dr. Seitz has received international awards for his commitment to research into alcohol-related diseases and the introduction of the Fibroscan method in Germany for measuring liver stiffness. Today, Prof. Dr. Seitz is considered one of the most renowned and experienced specialists and highly esteemed scientists in the field of alcohol research worldwide.

Prof. Dr. Seitz describes himself as a physician of the old school. He upholds the original ethical approach to medicine. The personal trust between doctor and client forms the decisive basis for the experienced physician and scientist.

Prof. Dr. Seitz was Medical Director of the Salem Clinic and St. Vincentius Clinic in Heidelberg, as well as Director of the Alcohol Research Centre of Heidelberg University, for around 30 years. In particular, his scientific research work on the topics of liver and alcohol research drove him on again and again. In 2006, Prof. Dr. Seitz helped to introduce the so-called Fibroscan in Germany. The Fibroscan is a method for measuring liver stiffness. It is based on determining the speed at which a sound wave propagates in the liver. The faster, the stiffer the liver. His research work earned him a unique international reputation, which is also reflected in various awards and prizes.

After three decades as medical director of hospitals in Heidelberg, Prof. Dr. Seitz decided to pursue a second career with his own specialist practice at the ETHIANUM Clinic. Prof. Dr. Seitz had long maintained close professional and friendly contact with ETHIANUM founder and Medical Director Prof. Dr. Günter Germann and the team of spinal surgeons. The two specialists Prof. Dr. Harms and Priv.-Doz. Dr. Orakcioglu, Prof. Dr. Seitz himself underwent spinal surgery years ago.
